Remaining Loops Used When Working The Outside Round of a Square

The photo above illustrates the outside round of an afghan square in-progress. On the side of the square that was the starting chain, the remaining loop of each chain is used when crocheting an outside round. An outside round is often desired on an afghan as a base for an edging or on an afghan square to achieve a finished look.

An example of a pattern using an outside round of single crochet as a base for the edging is the Beginner's Baby Blanket or Lapghan free pattern at http://crochet.about.com/library/n111106.htm
