FAQ and How to Contact Your Guide

I try my best to answer as many emails as I can. However, due to the volume of mail that I receive, I would be very appreciative if you would first try to see if the answer can be easily found in the information I have put on my site.

Try using the search box at the top of this page (there's a search box on every page). Note: On the search results page, scroll to below the Sponsored Results to the "In This Topic" links for crochet search results of pages on this site.

Crochet Forum - You may wish to post to the crochet forum to get help with your crochet questions.

I enjoy responding to posts as time allows but I also feel that the forum is for all and I want to give others a chance to respond. Posting your questions gives you a chance to get input from a variety of crocheters' voices. When you email your question only to me, you're missing out on the great resource of this whole community of crocheters, who also enjoy helping with their experiences and suggestions. When you post to the forum, many others can also benefit from the responses.

You may also find the search function on the Forum to be helpful in finding posts that will answer your questions. Be sure to set the date portion for a longer time period (otherwise you'll get a search result with only messages posted during the last week).

On the Forum Livelinks page, click on the title of any message post that interests you, to go to the Forum: http://crochet.about.com/library/bllivelinks.htm

Before Posting "Find Pattern Requests" on the Crochet Forum - Please note that the purpose of the "Find Patterns" folder on the Forum is for locating where you might find that pattern as a free pattern on the Internet or finding someone who might be willing to trade or sell to you an original (not a copy) of the publication you're seeking. Even giving away at no charge a photocopy or scan (reproduced copy) of a pattern that's still under copyright protection is a copyright violation (unless you have express written permission from the publisher or designer copyright-holder to do so). Publishers monitor Internet forums, are taking action against individuals and have the legal right to shut down message boards that are known as places where messages posted for the purpose of illegally swapping copyrighted patterns are commonplace.

I'm sure you can understand how important it is, on this forum, to not ask anyone to photocopy or scan a copyrighted pattern for you (also, to not post an offer to give someone an illegal reproduced copy). The obvious exception is, if it's a pattern that was first printed before 1923, that's now in the public domain. If that's the case, tell us the year first printed so everyone knows it's a legal post. Thank you.

If you still need to contact me - Like all the Guides at About.com, I'm a real person. If you haven't found the answer to your question by using the resources listed above, you can email me at crochet.guide@about.com

F.A.Q.

  1. Q. Printing Patterns - Only the ad at the top of the page prints when I try to print out a pattern. What can I do?
    A. Try this: before choosing the Print command, click anywhere (just not on a link) on the pattern portion of the page (tells your printer what part of the page you want to print), then choose Print. If the printer box that pops up for your printer has a choice such as “Print the selected frame only”, choose that. (Different printers will have different choices). Print Preview is handy for seeing ahead of time what will print for you (at the top of your browser, click File, then Print Preview).
  2. Q. Finding Patterns - Where can I find [a certain pattern]?
    A. From the array of free crochet patterns available on the Internet, I have listed many pattern links by category to make it easier for you to find the pattern you're looking for. These many categories of free crochet patterns are accessed from my Guide to Free Crochet Patterns at http://crochet.about.com/library/blfreepatts1.htm (you can also click on "Free Patterns A-Z List" on the left-hand side of this page). The search box at the top of this page can be helpful in finding a specific pattern.
  3. Q. Changing a Newsletter Email Address - How can I change my crochet newsletter subscription over to my new email address?
    A. You can easily change your email address by clicking on your customized link at the end of the crochet newsletter that you receive by email. On the page that comes up, enter your old email address and click the CHANGE ADDRESS button, then enter your new email address on the page that comes up. As always, the changing of an email address for the newsletter is just unsubscribing the old address and then subscribing the new address.
